What to Consider When Choosing a Marketing Agency

So, you’re looking for a top marketing company in Durban, or perhaps South Africa, to take your business to the next level? With so many creative, flashy agencies to choose from, how do you go about choosing the one that is right for you and your business? Here are a couple of things to consider when on the hunt for a hot marketing agency.

WINDOW SHOP

Start by doing some research. Window shop a little – don’t just buy the first thing you see. Google a couple of agencies you’ve heard of, and then take a look at their websites and online presence. See how much experience they’ve had, and which brands they’ve worked with. We recommend finding agencies who have worked with brands in the same industry as yours. If you’re the owner of a restaurant chain, for example, try finding an agency with restaurant brands on their books. Look at the content they have created for those brands. Chances are, if they are managing other restaurant brands really well, they will easily be able to execute a strategic and creative marketing strategy for yours, as they have solid experience in this field.

ESTABLISH A GOOD RELATIONSHIP

Another thing to look for is how your potential agency measures goals, and who you’ll be working with. It is important to be able to establish a good working relationship with your agency. Usually, you will be assigned an account manager or “go-to” person who will keep in touch with you on a monthly basis. This is the person who you will discuss business goals and marketing objectives with, but also the person who will give you feedback on how your campaigns are doing, usually using key performance indicators. It is imperative that you have a good working relationship and connection with this person, as they will be the one looking after you. Take this into consideration when choosing your agency.

BE MONEY WISE

It’s all well and good to find a fabulous and flashy agency, but can you actually afford them? You need to sit down with your team and decide how much you are realistically able to spend on marketing monthly. If money is not an obstacle, then shoot for the moon, but if things are a little tight, you’ll need to find the right agency who can do an excellent job but who won’t over charge, either. Find out from potential agencies what their various payment plans are. Do they work solely on monthly retainers, or are they willing to work on a project-by-project basis? This is important when choosing an agency to partner with.
